SHAH ALAM, July 10: Residents of the housing here at Jalan Plumbum 7/103, Section 7, live in fear because of construction cranes being too close to their houses

According to resident, Rahim Salib, 54, the construction crane for a commercial and residential project poses a threat to them.

“It is very dangerous if it falls due to high wind or storms, this project is too close to residential areas so much so that the 35-storey building and the nearest houses has too close a boundary.

“The boundary distance between the 35-storey building and houses should be expanded and reviewed.

“When it is too close, in terms of scenery and technicality, it is not very good if anything bad happens,” he said when met here at his home.

He added that health problems such as dengue infection also threaten the residents because there is concerned that the construction area is not well maintained.

“Together with the residents association, we have made complaints to the authorities for the construction to have a time limit.

“But what is surprising is that that (construction) works take place until 10 pm, so I hope that the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will enforce accordingly,” he said.

He added that there have been cracks in homes and land-slips around the residential areas as a direct consequence of the construction project.

He suggested for the construction crane which is too close to be moved to a further and safer area from the housing area so that the residents’ safety is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, according to another resident, Rosiah (not real name), the project has caused noise and air pollution to the homes in the area with dust and noise nuisance caused.

“We are very concerned about the project, but this project is still ongoing. I hope that this project will continue to be monitored by the authorities,” she said.

Meanwhile, according to the MBSA Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad commented that MBSA will get feedback from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) in the nearest future.
