SHAH ALAM, July 17: A total of 28,000 underprivileged people of Selangor will receive shopping coupons worth RM100 under the Jom Shopping (Let’s Go Shopping) programme in preparation to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr).

Meanwhile, for staff of State Government-Linked Companies (GLC), they will receive a Raya bonus of one month’s salary, said Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

For the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Jom Shopping programme, the State Government has allocated RM2.8 million for the success of the effort.

Abdul Khalid added that each family with an income below RM1,500 will be eligible to receive the assistance and must register with the Community Service Centre immediately.

“The coupon giving involves families from all 56 State Legislative Assemblies (DUN), including constituencies under Barisan Nasional.

“The coupons will be distributed to recipients by the respective area’s representatives of the people or Coordinating Officers for constituencies under the opposition,” he said in a press conference after chairing the Executive Councillors meeting here at the State Secretariat Building.

“This assistance in one of the programmes under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES or loosely translated as the People’s Economy) agenda implemented by the State Government over the past five years.

“The State Government is committed to continue welfare programmes under the MES which clearly receive good response and is beneficial to the people of the state,” he said.

In the meantime, he said that the State Government is still waiting for the Raya bonus announcement from the Public Service Department for civil servants of the state.

“If there is (an announcement), the State Government will give the Raya bonus depending on the Federal Government.

“But for employees of State Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), we have agreed to give at least one month’s salary,” he said.
