SHAH ALAM, August 19: A total of 20,000 signatures were obtained for the petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), to approve the application from Local Authorities in the Klang Valley to set-up Auxiliary Police Units.

Two weeks after the campaign was launched, the public’s pressure has prompted the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to give approval to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to set up an Auxiliary Police Unit with the recruitment power of 50 members

The Damansara Utama Assemblywoman, Yeo Bee Yin said that efforts will be intensified to achieve the target of 100,000 signatures in the near future.

“We will continue this campaign from time to time to increase public awareness on the need of auxiliary police for crime prevention,” she said when contacted.

The campaign which was launched on 4 July at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) is aimed to put pressure on the Federal Government to allow for the Selangor Government to form an auxiliary police force.

The public can join the campaign by obtaining a form at the Pakatan Rakyat Assemblymen’s office or from the website: www.safercity.com.my
