The verdict of the appeal of two Special Action Unit members, Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri, who were convicted of the murder of Mongolian, Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006 will be submitted by the Court of Appeal on Friday.

Malaysiakini.com reported that one of the lawyers representing Sirul Azhar, Hasnal Rezua Merican, confirmed the matter late yesterday evening.

“Yes, it’s true. The registrar has informed us that the verdict will be sent at 9am on Friday,” said Hasnal Rezua, quoted from the media portal.

Corporal Sirul and former Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri were found guilty and sentenced to death by the Shah Alam High Court in 2009 for the murder of Altantuya, then aged 28 years, at Mukim Bukit Raja in Shah Alam, Selangor, between 10pm on 9 October 2006 and 1am, 20 October 2006.

Former political analyst, Abdul Razak Baginda, who is also a good friend of the current Prime Minister, accused of abetting them, was freed by the High Court on 3 October 2008 after the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him.
