SHAH ALAM, Aug 7: Recognising that the people still need assistance to ease their burdens due to the high cost of living, the Selangor Government is committed to offer programmes that provide long-term benefits.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that it is to address the hardships faced by the people in this state due to the failure of the Federal Government to combat the price increase.

He said that the implementation of the programme is a continuation of the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES – the People’s Economy) agenda which will be expanded and improved from time to time.

“The State Government is aware that Muslims and non-Muslims of this state, totaling to 5.3 million in Selangor, needs assistance to ease the burden of living as a result of the price increase of goods which cannot be dealt by the Federal Government,” he said.

In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr) message, Khalid said that among the early efforts which will be implemented is to intensify the development of traditional villages and new villages throughout the state.

Even after more than 55 years of independence, and with a number of ministries created for rural development, development in nine districts in the state are far from satisfactory.

“The provision of basic needs for the use of the public, religious education and source of income for the residence is still not enough, so much so that the development of traditional villages and new villages are not eligible to exist in a state which was declared a ‘developed state’ almost 10 years ago,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government also plans to build more affordable homes in addition to improve aspects of safety, educational assistance, family development and so on.
