SHAH ALAM, August 20: The people may be facing a new ‘catastrophe’ after Umno-BN’s win in the 13th General Election with a variety of increases in tax, prices of goods and services.

Pokok Sena Parliamentarian, Datuk Mahfuz Omar said that the Umno-BN government is ‘running out’ of money so much so that they are willing to implement various actions such as imposing upon the people the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the increase in electricity tariffs.

“The people are trapped by provisions by the Umno-BN government, which can only produce temporary pleasures by giving out the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) and so on.

“The government is actually committing fraud against the people by giving momentary joys,” said Mahfuz when contacted by TVSelangor.

He said that the increase in electricity tariffs which will be implemented is inappropriate despite it being said that only a handful of consumers will be affected by the increase.

“When the price of electricity goes up, the prices of goods will also go up thus impacting consumers overall.

“It is a catastrophe which will be faced by the people and the people will fear an increase in crime rates and at the same time, the people will be plagued by a government which makes the people’s lives difficult,” he said.

Mahfuz added that the Umno-BN government lacks and has ‘run out’ of money, and this has led them to carry out actions that are not pro-people to recover money from the people.

“Our national debt and government-guaranteed debt has now exceeded RM600 billion. This places it at a rate of 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is harmful to the country.

“After this, the GST will be implemented to allow, as mentioned by the Prime Minister, for the government to have a new source of income.

“When this reduction of subsidies on essential goods is implemented, the people will be twice burdened,” he said.
