SHAH ALAM, SEPT 7: The differences in race and culture, differences in opinions and political affiliation should not be a barrier to unite against tyranny and oppression, stressed Selangor Chief Minster, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
He said that all parties should set aside differences and equally discuss a solution affecting the Muslim brotherhood, especially in the killing tragedies of the people of Egypt, Syria and Palestine.
“Solidarity is the embodiment of a sense of caring and selfless attitude which guarantees the existence of shared prosperity,” stressed Abdul Khalid in his speech emphasising policies that protect and restore the rights and dignity as human beings.
“The things happening in Syria, Egypt, Palestine and Burma show that people are losing their humanity. Human life no longer has worth. Civilians, men, women and children become victims of bullets, poison gas and chemical weapons,” he said.
Abdul Khalid said this when delivering a speech at the Humanity Solidarity Assembly organised with the State Government at Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam last night.
Also present was the PKR De Factor Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS Vice-President, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, leaders of Malaysian Islamic NGOs such as the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim), Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (wadah), the IKRAM Association of Malaysia (Ikram), the Malaysian National Association of Muslim Students (PKPIM), and over 5,000 attendees.
“While we are not able to be at the forefront to defend the plight of the oppressed, we can at least show our solidarity as a sign of sympathy towards the plight of those stricken with misfortune and disaster,” said Abdul Khalid.
The programme started with Maghrib prayers and a premier lecture by Ustaz Jel Fathullah Al-Anshori who was specially brought from Indonesia.
The programme continues with prayers of well-wishes and Qunut Nazilah, as well as a presentation of the video ‘Egypt Cries’ and a ‘Tears of Syria’ Flash Mob. Meanwhile, the highlight of the programme was the launching of the ‘Malaysia 4 R4bia’ campaign.
