SUBANG JAYA, 18 Sept: There were officers of the Election Commission (EC) who were counting the early votes before the 13th General Election took place, said the third witness at the GE-13 People’s Tribunal.
Abu Hussin Tamby, the candidate representative for the Air Limau constituency in Malacca said that it took place on 2 May at the Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD) around 3.15 pm.
During the incident, the witness and two other candidate representatives were led by two police officers of the IPD to deliver the early voting ballot boxes from Lubuk Cina.
When entering the station, he said that he clearly saw about seven EC officers around a pile of ballot papers in a lock-up cell.
“The IPD was the place of the ballot box safekeeping. All ballot boxes were gathered in the lock-up.
“When I arrived at the lock-up, I saw seven or eight people wearing EC shirts around the pile of ballot papers, showing that they were making calculations.
“I only saw the ballot papers but the ballot box was not there. I believe that it was from the Alor Gajah Parliament and Masjid Tanah,” said the witness who then made a police report at the Masjid Tanah IPD.
He has asked the police to re-watch the recordings of the closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) on the day of the incident but was rejected without any reason.
“The police could not give me accurate answers. They just said that any decision on misconducts will be submitted to the top,” he said.
The tribunal from 18 to 22 September was formed following pressure from the public who were not satisfied with the GE-13 fraud.
It is to examine, investigate and evaluate all complaints about incidents prior to the GE-13 or around the election period, including the voting process.
Five famous individuals who are qualified were selected to participate in the tribunal, including two from abroad.
They are; the former UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Cambodia, Yash Pal Ghai and the former Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Election Commission, Prof Ramlan Surbakti.
Malaysia’s representatives include Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court, Datuk Azzat Kamaludin, former Associate Professor of the Economics and Administration Faculty from the University of Malaya, Dr Mavis Puthucheary and the Secretary General of the Malaysian Council of Churches, Rev Dr Hermen Shastri.
