SHAH ALAM, Sept 5th: The people of Selangor that we interviewed expressed their unhappiness about the increased prices of petrol and diesel recently announced by the Federal Government on September 2nd. The average response seemed unanimous that the RM.20 increase will only serve to deteriorate the present living cost that’s already high enough as it is.

Hafiz Rashid, 27, said, “The fuel price increase will definitely influence a household’s budget. I hope that the government will consider re-examining their decision because those with poor income will be affected.”

Rosliana Abdul Samad, 34, concurred, “Petrol and diesel are basic necessities. It’s very likely that goods price hike will occur as well. The government should have been more aware. I also think that the proposal to encourage more people to use the public transportations is difficult to practice because the service is rather poor to begin with.”

Azrim Azmi, 26, said, “I am pretty certain that both personal and public transportation users will be affected by the increase. Maybe for the upper class, it’s pretty normal, but not for us who are less than privileged.”
