KUALA LUMPUR, SEPT 26th: More than 30 individuals from an anti-Lynas group today held a peaceful demonstration at the entrance to the Parliament to protest against the Lynas rare earth processing plant in Gebeng, Kuantan.

The group marched around 10:30 a.m. this morning, holding banners while chanting “Stop Lynas”” in the Parliament vicinity.

Joining them was MP for Kuantan, Fuziah Salleh.

The group then sent 10 representatives into the Parliament to hand over a protest memorandum to the Minister of Technology, Science and Innovation.

“The memorandum handover was made following Lynas’ failure to provide a detailed plan for identifying radioactive waste disposal site prior to the July 3, 2013 as agreed.

“We urge the minister responsible for directing the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) to immediately cancel and stop Lynas mega projects immediately,” said the group representative, Tan Bun Eet.

Previously, the rare earth processing plant in Gebeng, Kuantan received fierce criticisms following the issue of dangerous radioactive material into the surrounding residents.

However, last December 11th Lynas claimed that the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) complied with applicable laws and regulations.
