KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Youth Solidarity (SAMM) NGO demanded the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, to explain the scandalous allegations of a RM7.2 million luxury mansion purchase.

SAMM coordinator, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, claimed they had received documents of a three-storey bungalow purchase that was made under the name of the son of Padang Rengas MP, Mohamed Nedim Nazri.

“For such a young person, after examining his job and business, it seemed very questionable from the angle of capabilities.

“How could this minister’s child afford to buy a bungalow at such a high price,” he questioned, as quoted by the Free Malaysia Today today.

According to Badrul, the Inland Revenue Department’s records resource had casted doubts on Mohamed Nedim’s abilities to afford such luxurious purchase after a closer examination of his income declarations.

“In the process of purchasing this luxury home, the buyer gets to enjoy a discount of RM500, 9444.08 (-7%) as a Bumiputera.

“There are fanatical UMNO leadership defenders whose discounts do not even reach RM10,000, even with Bumiputera privileges, when it comes to buying a home. Because that’s the limit that could be afforded by ordinary people,” he said.

Badrul revealed that the document, which was obtained from an anonymous source last month, came complete with price quotient, agreements, and asset photos.

He did not rule out the possibilities that the document was deliberately leaked as a connection with UMNO’s internal conflicts ahead of next October’s elections.

He said Nazri should answer how his son could afford to buy such assets whilst young people today are struggling with rising living costs and being squeezed by various financial problems.

“Did he buy it with cash? If it involved a bank loan, how much loan was made, and how much of the amount was paid in cash? How did the banks give him millions of dollars worth of approval?” he asked.
