The Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Facilities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the programme is being organised as part of the State Government’s effort to help ease the burden of youths in this state who want to get married.

He said that programme was thought up to provide an opportunity to youths who cannot afford to build a family by holding a premier feast which maintains the Malay culture and customs.

“A total of 40 Malay couples, four Indian couples and one Chinese couple from 23 State Legislative Assemblies in Selangor will be celebrated in this ceremony,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor State Assembly lobby.

He said that this programme is a continuation of similar programmes which have successfully been implemented in Selangor since 2011.

“This programme is also one of a series of Anti-Adultery Campaigns undertaken by the State Government through the Standing Committee of Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development,” he said.

Among the requirements to participate in this programme is that the youth must have been born in Selangor, earn a net income of RM1,500 per person, must be their first marriage, and the couple must be aged under 35 years.

Dr Ahmad Yunus said that the event will also be graced with the presence of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, as well as state executive councilors.

In addition, he said that five selected couples will be married during the programme.

The Youth Wedding Initiative Presentation Ceremony will also take place at this event to couples who have already submitted applications through the Selangor Economic Planning Unit (UPEN).
