KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Nov: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested nine politicians who were reported to be involved in corruption between 2010 till last August.

Form the total, only five of them have been charged in court and the statement was given in writing by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Datuk Senator Paul Low, to answer questions by the Member of Parliament for Pandan, Rafizi Ramli, in a question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

The short answer disappointed Rafizi and he described Paul as trying to avoid from answering the real question.

Rafizi raised the question regarding the number of corruption reports received against politicians between year 2010 till now, and the number of investigations opened.

Also asked was the question on the number of cases submitted to the Attorney General and the number of cases that ended in prosecution, from the total involved.

“The question I ask confirms that the MACC has conducted investigation on politicians, however the prosecution papers were rejected by the Attorney General. Thus, statistics on how many investigations were rejected by the Attorney General is important to confirm the MACC’s allegations all these while that the Attorney General is responsible for protecting the agency.

“However, the refusal by the MACC and ministers in the PMO confirms that several investigations have been opened and sent to the Attorney General, showing that this agency is indifferent in combating corruption among politicians,” he said.
