CM Scholarships: New Fund Creates, Launches in February 2014

SHAH ALAM, 25 Nov: A new fund will be established to realise the granting of the Chief Minister Scholarships will be officially launched in February 2014.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the fund is separate from the RM8 million tabled in the Selangor Budget 2014, which is the state scholarship.

He said that the State Government in currently discussing to appoint a scholarship selection panel which will consist of academics, human resources and those who are experienced in such selection processes.

“The Chief Minister Scholarship will be given to children of Selangor who are capable and are able to reflect good leadership in the future.

“An example is someone who has very good results in their studies, with a first class degree, and at the same time is an athlete who represents Malaysia internationally,” he said.

According to him, among the main conditions to qualify for the scholarship is that not only must the applicant excel academically and in education, but must also excel in other extra-curricular activities.

In September, the Executive Councillor in charge of Higher Education, Dr Halimah Ali, said that the State Government has allocated RM1.1 million as a starting point for the success of the Chief Minister Scholarship programme.

She said that the scholarship will be awarded to Postgraduate students through bonds in effort to form a Selangor Brain Bank.
