PR Supports Daim’s Propose to Abolish APs

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Nov: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) supports the suggestion by the Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin, for the government to consider the proposal to abolish the Approved Permits (AP) to help the people buy cars at cheap prices.

The Member of Parliament for Pandan, Rafizi Ramli, in a brief answer through an SMS text said that he agrees with the statement even though Daim reiterated PR’s stand previously.

“I agree and actually, Tun Daim only reiterated our stand all this while that APs should be eliminated to reduce the price of cars,” he said.

Tun Daim, in media reports, said that the government should take positive steps in the National Automotive Policy (NAP) which will be revised further to consider the interest of the larger segment of the population, rather than a selected few.

Suggestions to abolish car APs was also stated by the Executive-President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Roland S Folger.

Folger also stressed that the elimination of APs will not affect the government’s tax collection, but improve it.

In Malaysia, there are 98 companies that have car APs and PR previously organised the ‘Reduce Car Prices’ campaign and listed the campaign in the last election manifesto.
