Shah Alam Stadium Upgraded for the Convenience of Spectators and Players

SHAH ALAM, 21 Nov: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will upgrade the Shah Alam Stadium to improve and upgrade the public facilities for the convenience of spectators and players.

The Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, said that the Shah Alam Stadium will be closed temporarily to implement the upgrading for three months, starting 1 December till 1 March 2014.

He said that the cost for reparation and upgrading of the stadium will cost RM2.4 million, which is also the second phase, after the first phase was completed previously at the cost of RM3.4 million.

“The upgrading of this stadium will involve roof repairs, the replacement of the field turf, restrooms and player’s lockers, as well as the public address system and the genset system,” he said.

He said this at a news conference after visiting the Shah Alam Stadium to look at the facilities today.

Mohd Jaafar said that MBSA will install closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) in strategic areas to enhance the security level of the stadium for the third phase.

The Shah Alam Stadium consists of an area of 155,000 square feet with a capacity of 80,000 spectators and was opened on 16 July 1994.

“MBSA will also improve sports facilities at the Melawati Indoor Stadium, the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre and the Shah Alam Extreme Sports Park,” he said.
