CM: Dwellers of More Than 10 Years to Receive Land Title

Shah Alam, Dec 2nd: Individuals found to have lived for at least 10-15 years on a house site in Selangor may be likely to receive ownership of the land from the government.

Chief Minister Tan Sri abdul Khalid Ibrahim stated that the land grant is possible as long as the house site does not lie on river reserve land and forest reserves, as per regulation.

Ha also explained that State regulations does not allow for development on river reserve land as it may impede future developments should the State decide to pursue such course of action.

“We have begun to collect data on land distribution within the state – whether there is a temporary lease of land, or government land that is idle as well as river and forest reserve land.”

“The State is also now actively preventing trespassing on government land. The policy now is to grant land especially to those who are homeless and have been occupying the site for more than 10 years,” he replied in answer to Razaly Hassan (PAS-Dusun Tua) on the topic of reserve land at the State Assembly session today.

At the same time, Abdul Khalid also condemned the greedy actions of some parties who deliberately trespass in order to gain the title to the land only to sell it to the highest bidder for a hefty profit.

He explained that most of the trespassers involve professionals who want to sell the land for profit.
“Maybe they think that they can lobby for ownership after building a school or such on the site.”

“In one example, a group of explorers found a site and sold part of it and are now lobbying to name the site Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Village. Unfortunately, it will not be passed and such efforts are futile,” he remarked.

He said that the sale of land for the cause of social welfare will be calculated according to the net value of the construction whereas land sold for commercial reasons will be rated at market price.
