CM: Selangor Orders Local Authorities to Make Early Preparation to Face Flooding

SHAH ALAM, 18 Dec: All local authorities have been asked to make early preparations for possible flooding in the state by supervising placement centres and food supply.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the State Government is committed in addressing flooding in several areas in the state which have troubled the people due to loss of property and threatened public safety.

He said that the Selangor Government, at the State Government Council meeting (MMKN) on 2 January 2013, approved the Flood Mitigation Project in Sri Serdang, amounting to RM8.470 million to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council.

“It is for the project to upgrade the drainage system, while RM7.7 million was approved to build a pump house, upgrade retention ponds, upgrade the internal drainage system and world to deepen Sungai Kuyoh.

“The State Government will monitor all flood mitigation project to ensure the the funds allocates in spent properly and would benefit the people,” said Abdul Khalid in a press conference after the State Government Executive Council Meeting today.

He said that the Selangor Immediate Response Team (Skuad Pantas) has also been ordered to be prepared to assist other security agencies in dealing with flood victims and other emergencies.
