Ministers Have Changed 3 Times, Khalid Samad ‘Forbidden’ to Visit Shah Alam Hospital

SHAH ALAM, 19 Dec: The construction of the controversial Shah Alam Hospital is now in the process of internal calibration and the Member of Parliament for the area, Khalid Samad, is disappointed because he has yet to visit it even after the minister has changed three times.

Khalid Samad said that hospital is in the process of internal calibration to place machines and special medical equipment in the building.

He said that perhaps, the central government wants to complete the hospital first before he is allowed to see it.

“The re-calibration of the hospital is expected to take about six months, so perhaps only after the middle of next year will it be open” he said, quoted from the MalaysiaKini website.

Khalid also expressed regrets because he has applied to visit the project site for a long time, since the administration of Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, in 2008.

He said that he was called to go on a working visit with the Public Works Minister, Datuk Fadillah Yusof, but claimed that it was cancelled at the last minute, on 24 October this year.

Khalid however wants to continue sending letters to the ministry to visit the hospital, which should have been completed in 2011.

Fadillah said that the Shah Alam Hospital (HSA) construction project in Section 7, Shah Alam, is fully completed and is expected to be operational in June 2014.

The Shah Alam Hospital project began construction on 1 November 2007 and was scheduled to be completed on 25 June, 2011.

However, the RM482.6 million project was delayed after having a problematic contractor and caused the hospital to be one of the 97 ‘sick projects’ undertaken by the federal government.

The project was re-tendered on 4 November 2010, with the government appointing a rescue contractor.

The hospital is built on a site measuring 12.2 hectares and will house 300 beds, as well as residential buildings, including nurses’ quarters.

In June 2011, Khalid came forward to make a report at the office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following various allegations that plagued the project.

It includes the alleged millions of dollars commission linked to the Ministry of Finance, however no action by the MACC has been taken until now.
