SHAH ALAM, 9 Dec: The Selangor Government is positive that the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor will be finalised in the near future.
The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that this discussion will be focused on solving the issues raised by Puncak Niaga and shareholders of the Selangor Water Supply Company Sdn Bhd (Syabas) regarding the acquisition.
“We are optimistic about finalising it after the restructuring is accepted by both parties,” said Abdul Khalid in a press conference after inaugurating the State Government Departments’ Monthly Assembly at the Silver Jubilee Hall today.
The Selangor Government previously decided to allow Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) to make an offer of RM9.65 billion to begin the acquisition process of the water concessionaires.
The offer letter to Syabas, Puncak Niaga, Konsortium Abass Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holding (Splash) has been officially released by KDEB.
This acquisition is in effort to restore the water rights to the people of Selangor.
The result of this acquisition will have an important impact on the lives of people, where the people will continue to receive 20 cubic metres of free water and will not be trapped with a water tariff rate which is unfair and burdensome.
