Another Protest Against Rising Cost of Living on 1 May

SHAH ALAM, 2 Jan: The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM), will be involved in another rally protesting against the rising cost of living caused by the Federal Government’s policy to increase the price of goods and services.

The SAMM propaganda Director, Edy Noor Reduan, said that the rally, which will be held on 1 May, will also involve other NGOs by placing emphasis on objecting to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which will be implemented in April 2015.

“At this time, we are organising the masses and discussions from time to time so that the assembly will run smoothly. We will officially inform the details of the assembly at the appropriate time.

“We have a lot of experience, so SAMM is confident that this gathering will run as smoothly as last night,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

He also did not rule out the possibility that this gathering will be held at Dataran Merdeka, just like the assembly which was carried out last night.

“The exact location will be determined later because it depends on the current needs at the time,” he said.

He said that such gatherings have to be held as long as the Federal Government goes ahead in implementing policies that are not attentive to the burden of living which the people are forced to shoulder because of wastage, corruption and leakages by the government in managing the economy and the financial resources of the country.

“Such protest assemblies will continue to be held as long as the Federal Government ignores the suffering of the people and deceives the people with sweet promises of not increasing the price of goods to win in the election,” he added.
