PUTRAJAYA, 10 Jan: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should resign as Prime Minister if he is no longer capable of running the country, especially in solving the issue of the people’s increasing cost of living.
The Keadilan Youth (AMK) Deputy Chief, Nazree Yunus, said that Najib did not only fail to solve some major issues involving the interests of the people, but he is also seen as a spendthrift leader.
He said that Najibs administration at this point is clearly not capable of implementing constructive and effective ideas that bring benefits; instead the people are being burdened further.
“Maybe Najib should think about this suggestion (to resign) if he does not have a strong political will to a point of failing to achieve a number of integrity desires and good governance.
“If a leader is given trust and power, but has no power to make changes for the betterment of the people, then it is useless.
“Give way for a new leader who is more qualified and capable to be the number one person in the country,” he said after submitting the AMK People’s Complaints memorandum to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) representative this morning.
Nazree said that it is not just the opposition that realises Najib’s extravagant nature, but it is also acknowledged by the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohamad.
“Tun’s (Mahathir) statement clearly shows that he agrees that Najib is a spendthrift and his expenses should be reviewed.
“In a situation where the people are constrained by the increase in price of goods and cost of living, it is not appropriate for a Prime Minister to be improvident, including the use of a private jet,” he said.
Yesterday, Mahathir in a talk show with RTM said that he did not need a luxurious and large jet when he ran the country for 22 years.
He said this when asked if Najib spent excessively to buy a jet and Mahathir cynically said that the federal government is probably richer today than during his administration, which is why Najib needed to upgrade the airline he used.
