SHAH ALAM, 23 Jan: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Hollywood said that buying over the rights and financing the making of a film does not actually qualify one as a producer.
This was seen as a “very rare” move for the Academy to drop Riza Aziz, the stepson of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, from the list of Oscar nominations for best film category for the film “Wolf of Wall Street”.
Instead, the list of producers nominated for the US$100 million film are; director Martin Scorcese; the main actor Leonardo DiCaprio; Riza’s business partner, Joey McFarland and Scorsese’s friend, Emma Tillinger Koskoff.
Quoting Malaysia Kini, the list of producers nominated for the Wolf of Wall Street was finalised by the Academy, a week after the other nominees were announced.
Prior to this, Hollywood actor, Leonardo DiCaprio confirms Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s son, Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, was involved in the film The Wolf Of Wall Street that sparked controversy around the world.
This was proven through DiCaprio’s speech upon receiving the Golden Globe Best Actor Award in the United States recently.
