SHAH ALAM, 23 Jan: The establishment of Secondary Religious Classes (Kelas Agama) and Fardu Ain (KAFA) by the state government is describes as an ‘extra ticket’ for students who previously did not have the opportunity to enrol in religious studies in state and federal secondary schools.

The Principal of the Sungai Udang Religious School (SRA), Fatimah Salleh, said that the opportunity should be taken for parents to place their children in the religious stream.

“Perhaps many parents do not know this and I hope that the opportunity will be taken so that efforts to empower faith and religious knowledge among the young people are achieved,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini recently.

For the record, the Sungai Udang SRA is one of the nine SRAs listed in the Secondary KAFA pilot project.

Since being operation earlier this year, at least 30 students have been successfully placed in the Sungai Udang SRA and it is expected to increase in time.

“Although it has been just three weeks since the school session began, the reception received, with the participation of 30 students, is to be proud of.

“Hopefully, the numbers will grow for us to boost Islamic education in Selangor,” she said.

She said that Secondary KAFA will not just build the self-esteem of students, but will overcome social students that occur during leisure time.

The Selangor ISlamic Religious Department (JAIS) is only charging RM48 per year in tuition fees, with text books being given away for free.

To lessen the burden on parents, JAIS also did not specify a special uniform, but students are required to wear secondary school uniforms.
