Selangor CM Announces Anwar Will Compete for Kajang DUN

PETALING JAYA, 28 Jan: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be contesting for the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, announced the Chief Minister today.

Tan Sri Abdul Khali Ibrahim said that the decision was also agreed upon by the leadership of Pakatan Rakyat (PR), which was informed in a meeting earlier this morning.

He said that with the participation of the Parliamentary Opposition Leader in Selangor, excellence in the Selangor Government can continue.

“So we will devote our full attention to ensure the success in the Kajang Dun By-Elections,” said Abdul Khalid.

Abdul Khalid made the announcement at a press conference, which was also attended by Anwar, Lim Kit Siang and Salahuddin Ayub, at the PKR Headquarters today.

Meanwhile, Anwar once again dismissed speculations that he will replace Abduk Khalid as Chief Minister.

“The decision reached by Pakatan Rakyat will help me motivate in helping increase excellence in the administration of the Selangor government,” said Anwar.

Yesterday, the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, announced the resignation of the Kajang Assamblyman, Lee Chin Cheh, from PKR.

Therefore, in accordance with Clause 5 of Article 70 of the Selangor State Constitution, an unexpected vacancy must be filled within 60 days

In the last general election, Lee, a the PKR candidate, won with a majority of 6,824 votes in the six-corner clash between, BN, BERJASA and three independent candidates.

The area has 38,965 voters, with 48 percent being Malays, 41 percent Chinese and 10 percent Indian.
