Anwar Wins By-Election, Umno Has No Hope in Seizing Selangor

KAJANG, 10 Feb: If the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, wins the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election on 23 March, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) hopes to re-capture the richest state from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will be buried.

Anwar said that this was expressed by the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the former Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin, as soon as they found out that he was the candidate for the Kajang by-election.

“When they found out, Umno immediately held a meeting. Those who were sleeping had to wake up because Anwar was going to Selangor. Tun Daim Zainuddin also woke up and said that if Anwar takes care of Selangor, Umno is finished.

“So Umno is thinking of how they can prevent this, (but) the people in Kajang will determine if they want this or otherwise,” Anwar said.

He said this during the Launching of the Kajang By-Election Machinery at Dataran Prima Saujana in Kajang recently.

Anwar added that Selangor, under the administration of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, successfully proves PR’s ability in administering the state far better and more effectively compared to BN previously.

Meanwhile, commenting on the same issue, Anwar also assured the voters of Kajang that his intention to contest is in the interest of the people and not for personal interests.

“If that was my intention, it would be a ‘haram’ (illegal) to support me. ‘Haram’, if my intent was to suck dry Selangor’s funds. We have to remember the trust given by the people by way of transparent governance.

“Let people see after this. Give it a year or two. The people of Negeri Sembilan (and) the people of Perak can look at Selangor. We will show that Selangor has a political landscape, economy, and cleanliness that has really changed,” Anwar added.
