“That is why I need to pray for strength and good guidance. I am not over confident. I have to work hard when i go down to Kajang.

“I know that here I am a potential Assemblyman candidate. Here, I am not the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, but I am only an Assemblyman,” said Anwar, who is also the de facto leader for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), in a talk here at Kampung Sg Kantan yesterday.

Anwar said that his decision to compete at the state level also surprised many, including one of his friends who is a representative of the Islamic party in Turkey during a visit to his residence yesterday.

“Tayyib Erdogan started as the Mayor of Istanbul before becoming Prime Minister. Ahmadinejad also started as a Mayor before becoming the President of Iran. But Anwar, from being an acting Prime Minister has demoted to the state level?” said Anwar.

Anwar also slammed the attitude of the Election Commission (EC), which has only criticised him for allegedly campaigning early but gave no reaction when several Cabinet Ministers also started campaigning in Kajang.

“I see that many minister have crowded Kajang, but I’m the only one reprimanded by the EC.The EC only sees me in Kajang. What about Khairy? Even Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is also there.

“Muhyiddin, he came to monitor the price of goods.Just ask Muhyiddin what he works as.Checking prices? The work of the Deputy Prime Minister is not to check prices, but to control policies, reduce the prices of goods, not check from store to store,” Anwar added.

Also speaking at the programme, which was attended by about 300 residents in the village, was the Selangor State Assembly Deputy Speaker, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; the Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad; the Member of Parliament for Ampang, Zuraida Kamaruddin and the Member of Parliament for Kuala Langat, Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid.
