60% of MMEA Assets Are Over 50 Years Old

KAJANG, 13 Mar: Members of Parliament attending a session at Dewan Rakyat were shocked when they were told that 60 percent of assets belonging to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) were over 50 years old.

The Member of Parliament for Bukit Katil, Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, said that this needs to be revealed when the government answers questions from the Member of Parliament for Parit Buntar, Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, during the Dewan Rakyat session recently.

“The agency that will be in front in the search and rescue operation, including being the coordinator in the MH370 incident is the MMEA.

“Dr Mujahid asked in Parliament how are the MMEA’s assets are and strengths, the answer was sad. The government said that over 60 percent of MMEA assets were over 50 years old. It should have been changed.

“Imagine, old assets are asked to find the plane. What a shame it is to us Malaysians,” he said in a talk held here at Taman Mesra yesterday.

Shamsul also expressed doubts in the ability of the Scorpene submarines belonging to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).

Meanwhile, when asked to touch on the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election, Shamsul urged Umno to be aware of the dishonesty carried out by their leaders.

“I want to appeal to ordinary members of Umno, the rich and wealthy leaders.

“Wanting to fly a leader’s wife that almost amounted to RM400 thousand, but the people living in hardship, asked to be prudent. They are even asked to eat ‘kangkung’ (water spinach),” he said.

Shamsul hopes that the voters in the Kajang by-election will give Barisan Nasional a ‘k.o. punch’ as a manifestation of a protest against BN’s rudeness in limiting the judicial institution and allowing rampant corruption.
