Anwar: Radar Did Not ‘Detect’ MH370, Hishammuddin Should Resign

SHAH ALAM, 22 Mar: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, to resign is he still refuses to give an explanation regarding the alleged failure by the Malaysian radar to detect the missing MAS MH370 aircraft.

The Opposition Leader said that the failure of the radar is not a small matter because it involves national security and should be given serious attention.

He said that although the country is supplied with the most sophisticated radar, owned by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), the MH370 mystery has brought up new questions that needs to be answered by Hishammuddin.

“What exactly happened to the radar, was the radar switched off? Why can’t the radar detect our aircraft?

“If the Defence Minister cannot answer such things, he should resign immediately,” he said when speaking at the Reformation 2.0 Assembly at the Kajang Stadium last night.

The MH370 aircraft was reported missing from the radar in the morning on 8 March, during its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

During the first week, the search and rescue mission was only focused on the South China Sea waters. But on the ninth day, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, informed that the aircraft had crossed Peninsular Malaysia to the Straits of Malacca.

“The aircraft crossed four states in Malaysia, but went undetected by the radar. This is dangerous because it is negligence.

“The aircraft went another way, why then order them all (search and rescue mission) to the South China Sea.

“In the history of China’s foreign policy, they have never been this angry,” he said, referring to the Chinese Government’s frustration regarding the failure by the Federal Government to share information, resulting in a delay in the MH370 search mission.

MH370, piloted by Captain Zaharie Ahmad Syah, carried 227 passengers, with 153 of them being Chinese nationals.
