CM: Selangor Encourages High Potential Industry to Grow

SHAH ALAM, 31 Mar: The State Government is always ready to open up the space and platform to enable innovative sustainable jobs with high salary to be enjoyed by the people.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the State Government has identified industries that have the potential to allow the Selangor economy to grow and one of it is the industry of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).

He said that the growth in the MRO industry is expected to improve the performance of the gross domestic product (GDP) by at least 6.5 percent in the next ten years.

“The MRO industry provides the opportunity for the young people of Selangor to improve their skills and abilities in a field that requires expertise.

“When they have high skills, their pay would increase and the family per capita income will also increase,” he said in a press conference.

Earlier, he inaugurated the Opening Ceremony of the SR Technics Maintenance Centre located here at Section 15, this morning.

Also present at the event was the Executive Councillor for Investment, Industry, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Whitening, Ean Yong, and the Chief Executive Officer of SR Technics, Andre Wall.

“Selangor is also proud to be chosen by SR Technics and it is understood that 94 percent of the 110 employees here are locals who have gone through comprehensive training, including in Zurich, Switzerland.

“SR Technics is also working with vocational institutions in Malaysia to produce a syllabus that meets the needs of the industry in terms of skills and competencies,” he said.

The centre is also the first maintenance centre in Southeast Asia and the third in Asia Pacific that provides MRO services for heavyweight commercial aircraft.

With an area of 150,000 square feet, SR Technics operates in accordance with European Standards, Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
