SHAH ALAM, 13 Mar: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) will station its officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to prevent shamans (bomoh) from performing rituals to detect Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370, which has been missing since Saturday.
JAIS deputy director of enforcement Hardi Mohd Sadali said the department would work with the security personnel in KLIA to prevent such activities from happening again.
“The monitoring will be done continuously at the airport,” he said when met after conducting monitoring at Anjung Tinjau yesterday.
Citing a report from BERNAMA, a team of 15 JAIS officers and members surveyed the Anjung Tinjau area after receiving information about a shaman, Ibrahim Mat Zin, 80, who performed such rituals for the second time tonight.
The enforcement team arrived at 9.20pm and were seen waiting for Ibrahim at the Anjung Tinjau before being seen leaving the place at 10.15pm.
At noon yesterday, Ibrahim who claimed to be “Raja Bomoh”, performed the “flying mat” ritual to detect the MH370 airplane with several men who held two coconuts for some unknown purpose.
On 10 March, Ibrahim was also at the KLIA to perform a ritual using the fish trap “bubu mata pancing”.
Hardi said his department would not hesitate to take action under the Selangor Syariah Crime Enactment against Ibrahim if he continued to perform the rituals at the KLIA.
“We have advised him not to perform the rituals like the ones he performed. If he persists, we will take action,” he said.
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) today also criticised the efforts by certain quarters to use the services of a shaman to find MH370 which went missing while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing last Saturday, as this was against the teachings of Islam.
FMH370 lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control Centre about 40 minutes after leaving the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The flight, which was due to land in Beijing at 6.30am on Saturday, was carrying 12 crew and 227 passengers.
