SHAH ALAM, 26 Apr: Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, urged the American Government to focus on values related to freedom and democracy.
Anwar said that the visit by the U.S. President, Barack Obama, to Asia, including Malaysia, should not just revolve around the agenda of trade and investment.
He said that Obama’s visit to Malaysia this weekend would be an opportune moment to live up to the ideals Obama espoused in his campaign and the early days of his administration.
Anwar stressed this in his writing, published by the Washington Post today, when Obama arrives in Kuala Lumpur today for a two-day visit.
Obama is scheduled to meet with a number of prominent civil society representatives tomorrow, including the electoral reform group BERSIH, the Islamic Renaissance Front and the Bar Council.
