SHAH ALAM, 6 Apr: The Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, Khalid Samad, slammed Barisan Nasional’s (BN) actions of bringing up issues of basic facilities as a capital to bait votes every time an election is held.

He said that basic facilities like the constructing of hospitals should be the responsibility of the Federal Government, including constructing a new building for the Kajang Hospital which is now 12 years old.

“They have promised to build hospitals in many areas but only the ground-breaking is done, nothing else, in addition to the Shah Alam Hospital which has yet to me completed. I think that the proposal in Kajang was only an election promise that will not be fulfilled.

“The facility of hospitals cannot be used for election campaign material because its construction was planned in a few Malaysia Plans and when it should be built.

“It also cannot be made a goodie or bribe to win the by-election, but that is the method used by BN and even if they win, it will not be fulfilled,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

He said that the Federal Government should seriously consider the proposal to build a new Kajang Hospital to facilitate the community despite being defeated in the recent by-election.

Among BN’s election promises on the issue of hospitals is the promise in the 12th General Election campaign in 2008, where a ground-breaking ceremony was held to build a hospital in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

However, the foundation built is only a ‘monument of a promise not fulfilled’ as a warning to the local community to not be deceived again in the future.

Meanwhile, in the Kajang by-election campaign, the Minister of Health, Dr Subramaniam, in a statement, said that the ministry will propose to the Federal Government to build a new building for the Kajang Hospital, which is not 125 years old.

However, after BN lost in the by-election, the matter has been quiet, without any further progress.
