CM: Water Scheduling Ends After Dam Levels Reach Over 55 Percent

SHAH ALAM, 2 Apr: The water scheduling programme in Selangor will only end after water levels in the dams are over 55 percent, said the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said that the State Government will take conservative measures to ensure that the water supply is always adequate despite heavy rain in some areas.

“Although there has been rain, I want water to increase in dams, so I have set the target for each dam to be over 55 percent because there are dams with water levels below 40 percent.

“I hope that when it reached over 55 percent, the water rationing programme will be terminated,” he said in a press conference in Shah Alam today.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid said the scheduling of water may not persist until the end of April because rain has begun to fall.

The fourth stage of the scheduled water rationing in the Klang Valley starting this Friday will involve 620,237 houses in nine provinces.

National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman Datuk Ismail Kassim said that the phase will affect nine districts here: Gombak, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

More than 6.7 million Selangor and Kuala Lumpur residents will be involved when this fourth stage is implemented until 30 April.

Ismail added that households affected by the fourth phase will be subject to a two-days on, two-days off water supply pattern.

He said that the scheduled rationing is because the water levels of major dams in Selangor are still low as the rate of rain in catchment areas since 16 March is little.
