RM100,000 Awaits Citizens of PJ

PETALING JAYA, 21 Apr: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is organising the Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Premier Award 2014 to encourage the community in areas under the local authority to create a sustainable residential environment.

The prestigious award ceremony will be held for the 13th time under the 21 Local Agenda Programme and is open to Residents Associations, Village Security Committees (JKKK) and neighbourhood watch communities in Petaling Jaya.

MBPJ Council Member, Halimey Abu Bakar, said that the annual awards ceremony organised by MBPJ is also offering prizes worth over RM100,000, including prizes for the four categories to be contested.

“For the Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Premier Award 2014 this time, I urge all communities and the people of Petaling Jaya to participate in this event and together, join hands to create a sustainable environment in Petaling Jaya.

“Other Council Members are also urged to play a role to encourage the communities in their respective areas to participate in this event,” Halimey said when inaugurating the Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Premier Award 2014 at the MBPJ Headquarters today.

The first prize winner will take home a development grant prize worth RM50,000, the second prize is a development grant worth RM25,000 followed by a third prize of RM10,000.

In addition, for the Initiative Award, which will be divided into category of Environment, Competitive Economy, Culture and Community, and Good Governance, will each take home development grants worth RM3,000 and each entry will also receive a participation incentive worth RM1,000.

The winner will also take home the Mayor’s Trophy, a certificate of appreciation and an souvenirs.

Each community group interested to participate in this awards can do so before the closing date on July 31.

The panel member of the award, Sonny Lim, said that participants are required to provide a report in three months before the panel visits the involved community areas and the results will be released in December.

“All types of residences have a chance, even low-cost apartments. Even last year, a low-cost housing won.

“One of the factors of their success is they have community consensus, they are unites and the association leadership has direction,” said Sonny at the press conference of the awards launch.

Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Premier Award last year was won by the Idaman Apartment Residents Association (IRAS), Damansara Damai; second place went to the Residents Association for Block 3, Desa Mentari and third place went to the Taman Gasing Indah Neighbourhood Watch, Petaling Jaya.
