Capacity of Sungai Selangor Dam continues to show significant improvement

SHAH ALAM, 24 MAY: The capacity of water in the Sungai Selangor dam that provides up to 60 percent of water to residents within the Klang Valley and Putrajaya continues to record a positive improvement following continuous heavy rainfalls every day since last May.

According to reports from Water Management Board of Selangor (LUAS), the water levels at the Sungai Selangor dam continues to rise at 41.83 percent with the rate of 96.21 cubic meters.

If the dam capacity is full, it is able to accommodate up to 235,320,000 cubic metres. It involves a dam design of 400 metres in length at the bottom, 800 metres in length and 110 metres in height, also consisting of 1.2 million cubic metres of clay and also 6.4million cubic metres of granite.

For the time being, the only running operation is the pumping of river water into the pond following extra flow of river water due to the recent heavy rains.

Pumping of water from the pond in Bestari Jaya into Sungai Selangor started on 26th February up till 6th April recently.

However, Batu dam records water level at 86.18 percent, while Langat dam records a rise of 20.51million cubic metres or 60.17 percent as compared to only 19.49million cubic metres(57.16percent) last week.

Klang Gates dam latest reading is at 16.08million cubic metres (63.45percent), Semenyih dam at 48.56 million cubic metres (82.21percent), Sungai Tinggi dam at 79.45 million cubic metres(69.39percent) and Tasik Subang dam at 3.51million cubic metres(83.53percent).
