SHAH ALAM, 20 May: The number of branches instructed to hold re-elections is expected to increase when the Election Complaints Committee (ECC) conducts a series of hearings at all branches where there have been justified objection.
This can be seen when Selangor Kini found that the official Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election results, as of May 11, which was published on the party’s official website since yesterday, shows that there are no results shown for 23 branches, excluding branches in Selangor.
This amount brings the total to 33 branches, after including the 10 branches in Selangor which were confirmed by the Central Election Committee (CEC), which will hold re-elections.
Previously, the CEC announced that 17 branches had to hold re-elections, excluding 10 branches in Selangor.
The increase in number of branches that need to hold re-elections are believed to have happened when the latest investigations on the objections received was justified, thus increasing the number of branches involved.
Previously, the Chairman of the Election Complaints Committee (ECC), Abdul Malek Hussain, said that they were actively holding hearings for branches where there have been justified objections.
This development makes the competition for key positions for the central level become increasingly interesting because the opportunity is considered still open with the increase in respective votes for the re-election, apart from the votes in Selangor which have not been announced yet.
It is increasingly exciting as the results for branches in Selangor, which has the highest number of members, has not been officially announced.
The exciting contest this time involves a three-cornered fight for Deputy President, involving the incumbent, Mohamed Azmin Ali; the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and the PKR Secretary-General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.
In Selangor, Abdul Khalid is said to gain the highest number of votes based on his influence and outstanding record as Chief Minister, which could have profound impact on the party’s grassroot members.
