PKR Election: Selangor Polls Highest, Ballots for 5 Branches Counted at Headquarters

PETALING JAYA, 12 May: The ballot counting for the PKR Election 2014 for branches in Gombak, Ampang, Kuala Langat, Puchong and Kelana Jaya will be carried out at the PKR headquarters to overcome the problem of imperfect logistical conditions at polling centres.

The Chairman of the Central Election Committee (CEC), Datuk Johari Abdul, said that the decision was made when there were requests from the monitors at polling centres in the areas concerned.

“Some ballot counting areas are congested, uncomfortable and so on, so they appealed for the counting to be done at the room below, where press conferences are normally held,” said Johari during a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.

Meanwhile, a survey by Selangor Kini at the ballot counting area in the PKR headquarters media room found that the counting process is still being carried out by election staff.

Commenting on the percentage of members who came out to vote, Johari said that Selangor has the largest number of PKR members, recording the highest percentage of turnout so far.

“In Selangor, some branches have up to 6,000 members. That is why the turnout in Selangor is high.

“Meanwhile there are over two thousand members contesting in Selangor,” said Johari.

Johari said that this time, about 10,000 party members from all levels had volunteered as candidates for various positions in this time’s election.

“This is a sign that PKR is a party that is becoming increasingly relevant. Previously, it was very hard to get candidates; but not anymore,” added Johari.
