SHAH ALAM, 19 May: The latest results in the contest for Deputy President is expected to change after the Election Complaints Committee (ECC) actively holds hearings on the objections raised across the country.
The objections include six branches in Sabah where the hearing is currently ongoing; Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Ranau, Sepanggar and Sipitang.
If the objection made has grounds, it will cause more election results previously issued to be cancelled for a re-election.
The ECC Chairman, Abdul Malek Hussain, when contacted by Selangor Kini, confirmed that he was in Sabah to conduct a hearing regarding the PKR Election 2014 objections.
“I am at a hearing in Sabah. Sorry, I am busy right now, I cannot give any comment,” he told Selangor Kini today.
Meanwhile on the official PKR website, as of May 11, the Deputy President, Azmin Ali, is in the lead with 12,250 votes, leaving behind his challenger, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who received 8,123 votes, followed by Saifuddin Nasution, 6,997 votes.
However, the number of votes displayed does not include the results in Selangor, which has the highest number of members in the country.
Meanwhile, according to a Selangor Kini source, the candidates’ representatives are facing difficulty in determining the actual votes as there often are discrepancies of the total votes between candidates’ representatives and the Central Election Committee (CEC).
“Sometimes, they say ok one minute to the results at branches, another minute they withdraw the results, then it is ok again and they withdraw again. This tug-of-war game has caused us trouble in making an accurate count,” he explained to Selangor Kini.
