Residents Urge Local Authorities to Take Immediate Action on Those Polluting the Seri Aman Lake Park

PUCHONG, 9 May: Some residents and anglers have expressed disappointment with the actions of unscrupulous people who are polluting the beauty and landscape of the Seri Aman Lake Park.

They have also urged the local authority to take immediate action on the parties concerned to overcome the problem of heaps of trash in the park, causing discomfort among the local community.

Resident Abdul Wahab Ngah Hashim, 70, said that the lake, which is famously known as ‘Lombong Buaya’ (Crocodile Mine), has become increasingly quiet as the public, especially anglers, can no longer stand the heaps of rubbish.

“I worked on cleaning up this village for 12 years with a company appointed by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ). At that time, the lake was so clean that many families came here to picnic and it was packed with anglers,”

“Compared to today, the lake which was once clean and an attraction to the public has changed into a garbage area. It is very disappointing,” he said when met recently.

For another resident, Zainuddin Mansor, 60, the lake which was the pride of local residents should be immediately restored to preserve its beauty and re-attract visitors.

“As a resident here, this lake is our pride. It is a landmark that is not available in other villages. Unfortunately, it is not well preserved.

“I often promote this lake to my friends for recreational purposes and to try their luck at fishing. However, this lake is no longer a focus of the public and fish. It is a ‘huge garbage bin’ which spoils the existing beauty,” he said.

Meanwhile, a food vendor, Usman Idris, 47, said that his business has been affected because of the increasingly polluted condition of the lake and garbage heaps everywhere.

“I have been doing business here for over seven years; from vending under a tree at the bank of the river until I moved here (food stall). Previously, it was very lively. Sometimes my shop will be packed by people and anglers until three in the morning.

“Prior to this, my daily income was RM800, but today, it is difficult to even reach RM250 a day,” he said.
