Terengganu State Assembly expected to dissolve, 6 Umno Assemblymen quit the party

SHAH ALAM, 13 May: The Terengganu State Assembly is expected to dissolve to make way for the state election following the political crisis happening in the State Government among Umno representatives.

Citing Tranungkite.net, so far it is rumoured that six Umno Assemblymen have quit the party to become independents.

Commenting on the rumours, Bandar Assemblyman, Azan Ismail (PKR), confirmed what was happening and claimed that Barisan Nasional (BN) will automatically dismantle as the State Government in Terengganu.

“Simply put, Umno and BN are only the minority, so they are not entitled to form the government. However, the official swearing-in ceremony to replace the existing government has not happened yet. We will see what happens.

“There is also the possibility that there will be an attempt to pull them back into Umno,” he told Selangor Kini today.

The crisis happened when the former Chief Minister of Terengganu, who is also the Kinjal Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, resigned soon after his successor, Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, was sworn in office in front of the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, at Istana Sharqiyyah in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

He claimed that he was not satisfied that the change of Chief Minister was done a few days before his daughter’s wedding, on May 17.

In fact, he also hinted that more state assemblymen may follow in his footsteps, but did not specify the number.

Following his footsteps as of this morning was the Assemblyman for Ajil, Ghazali Taib and the State Rural Affairs Executive Councillor, who is also the Bukit Besi Assemblyman, Roslee Daud.

Unofficial sources also said that the Assemblyman for Permaisuri, Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafie; Kemasik Assemblyman, Rosli Othman and the Hulu Besut Assemblyman, Nawi Mohamad, will also make the same move to leave Umno and become independents.

However, Mohd Jidin and Rosli, through Berita Harian Online, denied this while Nawi Mohamad could not be contacted.

However, Azan also confirmed that five more Umno state Assemblymen have declared to make the same move and become independents. These Assemblymen are Ghazali Taib (Ajil), Roslee Daud (Bukit Besi), Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafie (Permaisuri), Rosli Othman (Kemasik) and Nawi Mohamad (Hulu Besut).
