Merdeka Centre survey: 73% of complainants satisfied by Selangor local authorities’ actions

SHAH ALAM, 19 July: The survey conducted by an independent research body, Merdeka Centre, shows that 73 percent of Selangorians whose complaints were acted on were satisfied with the performance of their respective local authorities, compared to 25 percent who were dissatisfied.

The survey which involved 895 respondents whose complaints were acted upon by the local authorities also showed that the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) had the highest level of satisfaction with 83 percent, while 78 percent were satisfied with the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp), and 71 percent for the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

Meanwhile, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) received a satisfaction level of 70 percent; Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) received 69 percent, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) received 68 percent and the Selayang Municipal Council received 65 percent.

Meanwhile, on the whole, 54 percent of the 1,648 respondents who had lodged complaints said that their complaints were acted upon and resolved.

A total of 34 percent either did not know the status of their complaints or no action was taken and resolved by the local authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, 11 percent said that the local authorities had acted on their complaints but did not resolve the problem presented in the complaint made to the local authorities.

The survey also showed that of the 1,648 complaints made, 23 percent revolved around the issue of waste management, 12 percent were drainage problems and 11 percent were on the issue of stray animals.

The rest, 36 percent revolved around the felling of trees and the clearing of grass (10 percent), road damage (7 percent), traffic light damage (7 percent), damage of infrastructure and public facilities (5 percent), lack of parking (3 percent) and the problem of businesses and dengue, each two percent.
