MES audit results announced after investigation by the Integrity Department

SHAH ALAM, 7 July: The initial investigation by the Assemblymen’s Office, the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Coordinators’ Office and the office of Members of Parliament to monitor the usage of financial provisions under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) programmes shows a trend where production is in excess of grants received by recipients.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Welfare, Rodziah Ismail, said that the findings will be investigated by the Selangor State Audit Department and the Selangor Integrity Department to ascertain whether there were leakages or irregularities happening or problems related to technical issues.

“If it is true that there has been a misuse of provisions from the people’s money, the State Government will not hesitate to take action. State Government policies apply to all, regardless if it is the Chief Minister, Executive Councillors or Assemblymen.

“What is important is that the money we have allocated reached the people. That is what we are working for,” said Rodziah when contacted by Selangor Kini.

She said that all findings from the audit will be taken to a closed meeting to decide on further action, which will be announced to the public.

Rodziah however did not explain which Offices of MPs, Assemblymen and DUN Coordinators that are involved with the production trends that exceed contributions.

Last Wednesday, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the Selangor State Audit Department has been ordered to carry out audits at all Offices of Selangor Assemblymen, DUN Coordinators and Members of Parliament to monitor the use of financial provisions of the MES welfare programmes.

It aims to facilitate the State Government in examining the effectiveness of welfare programmes carried out since 2008.
