No need to make a big issue of Abdul Khalid meeting Najib

SHAH ALAM, 11 July: There is no need to make a big deal out of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, attending an Iftar feast which was also attended by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Deputy Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly (DNS), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the meeting was not uncommon as both of them are the top leaders in the state and the country.

He said that the meeting should also not be seen through a political scope and should be seen more openly.

“It is not like he (Abdul Khalid) cannot meet the Prime Minister. We should not see everything from the lens of a party.

“In the Conference of Rulers, the Prime Minister is there with the Agong and the Chief Minister is with the Sultan. Previously, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, after swearing in, also had tea with Najib.

“So I do not see it as a major issue. I, too, have good friends in Umno,” he said during a press conference at the Annex Hall today.

BERNAMA reported that Abdul Khalid attended an Iftar feast with the people of Selangor, organised by the Selangor Federal Development office at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque at Bukit Jelutong, which was also attended by Najib.

In his statement, Najib said that he was grateful for Abdul Khalid’s presence and said that they could work on other things, in addition to describing this as a good start.
