Survey: “New CM has to prove to be better than Abdul Khalid”

SHAH ALAM, 18 Aug: The Chief Minister of Selangor which will be replacing Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has to prove that he or she is able to beat Khalid’s performance in financial governance and to be better at state management.

The statement is a summary of the review carried out by Politweet.Org on users of the Twitter social media website from 9 to 15 August.

In the survey, Abdul Khalid is still the people’s choice to continue administering Selangor despite him facing strong pressure to be replaced by a new Chief Minister candidate, as announced by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.

The Politweet.Org survey involved 2,062 respondents, with 22 percent (445 people) agreeing for Abdul Khalid to remain as Chief Minister, while only 10 percent (209 people) wanted him to resign.

10 percent (206 people) said that they did not support Pakatan Rakyat and 5 percent did not support the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the President of PKR, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Meanwhile, 3 percent of respondents (65 people) are not happy with all the parties and the crisis which is taking place, while only 2 percent (34 people) agree for the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) to be dissolved.

The highest percentage recorded was 48 percent, where 988 respondents did not have any opinion on the crisis.

“As a result of our analysis, we can say that the people see Tan Sri Abdul Khalid as a representative of the people who is respected and not a representative of a political party.

“The reason given by PKR to sack him was not explained well or was not well received. As a result, the dismissal of Tan Sri Khalid is seen as unfair and unreasonable.

“For example, (the State Government) signing the MoU with the Federal Government on the Langat 2 project is one of the reasons mentioned by PKR on his dismissal.

“However, consumers see the Langat 2 as a good move to end the water supply problem. The water supply issue is also seen as more important than the change of Chief Minister.

“Pakatan Rakyat’s move (particularly PKR) during this crisis is criticised as a whole despite consumers accepting the dismissal of Tan Sri Khalid.

“PR is seen as taking action for their own interests against Abdul Khalid and not in the interest of the people,” said the study’s conclusion.

Among the reasons why respondent’s expressed support for Abdul Khalid is because they are not satisfied with the reasons and PKR’s move imposed on him by merely throwing around allegations and being hasty in sacking him instead of showing proof that Abdul Khalid was guilty of the offences.

Apart from that, they are of the opinion that Abdul Khalid has done a good job at developing the state well, in addition to increasing the government reserves which now stands at RM3.2 billion.

They are also of the opinion that this Port Klang Assemblyman can work well without political interference and should remain in office until the end of the term, and suggested for him to clear his name.
