CM: MBSA builds RM350,000 pond to overcome flooding in Section 13

SHAH ALAM, 25 Oct: The flash flood problem here in Section 13 will be overcome by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) through the constructing of a retention pond that is able to accommodate the follow of water to be smoother.

The retention pond worth RM350,000 will be built by MBSA at the area near the Management Science University College (MSU), while another, near the Shah Alam Stadium, will be upgraded.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that continuous efforts from the local authority can overcome this problem that has burdened the residents in the area and the surrounding area.

“This is because the water is channelled first into this retention pond before being channelled out,” he said during a media conference after visiting the area today.

Mohamed Azmin said that the provisions for the construction are through existing MBSA provisions.

He said through the survey conducted, it was found that the cause was because the position of the monsoon drain around the stadium area should be reviewed because it is unable to accommodate the flow of water when there is too much.

He said that the sewerage under the road should be maintained because there is a lot of mud and it is blocking the water flow.

“However, maintenance will be done as usual, starting today, so that the water can flow properly. After that, the water flow will be smoother,” he said.

The fieldwork today by Mohamed Azmin was following complaints received from the residents in the area through the short messaging system (SMS) and Tweets regarding the problem.

Also participating in the inspection was the Shah Alam Mayor, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Ali; the Assemblyman for Kota Anggerik, Dr Yaakob Sapari; and the Member of Parliament for Shah Alam Khalid Abdul Samad.
