The Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Welfare, Women’s Affairs and Family, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that the decision to allow the 289 families to return was on advice by the Technical Department, the Hulu Selangor District Disaster Management Committee, after confirming that there has been no new ground movement in the area.

The Slope Engineering JKR Branch and the Department of Mineral and Geoscience have been inspecting the area since October 21 till today (*.30 am) and found that the slope area is stable.

“However, monitoring will be carried out continuously,” she said.

At least 289 families consisting of 1,163 individuals living in Block K and L were placed at the temporary placement centres involving three nearly schools after the landslide incident on October 20.

The landslide this time is considered as the worst compared to the first time a similar incident happened in 2009.

“I am very thankful to all parties involved who have worked hard all this while to restore the slope, thus allowing all residents to return home earlier than expected.

“The residents are also advised to comply with orders from the local authorities from time to time and to always be aware of the surroundings for safety’s sake,” she said.

Prior to this, the state government agreed to channel RM500,000 in allocations for the restoration works and RM150,000 in disaster assistance for all families involved in this tragedy.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, had visited the place of the landslide twice in 24 hours to personally see the incident and care for the residents involved.
