SHAH ALAM, 5 Nov: The statement by the Umno Youth Chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, that only Barisan Nasional (BN) can fight for the fates of the young people was strongly refuted by the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders.
The PAS Youth Chief, Suhaizan Kaiat, said that both he and the youth in PR are always moving in tandem with the community through various agendas and programmes put in place.
Taking the example of PAS, he said that the Islamic party has several organisations, including the Charity Unit Department, to provide services to the community during disasters, and they have established business networks and legal services as an agency to Pakatan.
“We, the PR Youth, are also involved in sports and cultural programmes, in addition to going down to meet the youth almost every day to get close to them.
“Now we are developing the next generation of young people by providing a platform for the young people, creating business networks and legal services that are agencies for PR.
“This Khairy does not see this. He only sees Umno, while we have provided a variety of programmes for the community,” he told Selangor Kini.
At the PPP Youth General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday, Khairy claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth is a group of young people fighting for current issues and problems faced by the young people compared to the Pakatan Rakyat Youth.
The Minister of Youth and Sports also said that the Youth of BN component parties practice politics based on values and meaning to all generations of Malaysians and is not just focused on the ambition and hidden agenda of a person.
Meanwhile, when commenting on BN allegations that the opposition youth do not fight for issues concerning housing, the rising cost of living and bank loan problems faced by the young people, Suhaizan said that the main policy should be done by BN, as they are the ruling government.
He said that as the opposition party, PR can only recommend improvements and recommendations on community development through the sessions at the House of Representatives.
“This has been mentioned by PR MPs many times and because we are not the government, the power of implementation if rather limited.
“But, we are trying to raise the people’s awareness, one of the ways is through organising peaceful assemblies,” he added.
