Sultan: Federal government should provide adequate provisions to maintain military equipment

KLANG, 30 Nov: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, wants the federal government to provide adequate provisions for the supervision and maintenance of military equipment.

He said, to confront enemies who threaten the country, equipment and weaponry available must be supervised properly and be in perfect condition for use at any time.

“It is very disappointing to have sophisticated and advanced assets which cannot be used and are kept in stores or warehouses for not having spare parts due to lack of funds,” said the Sultan who is also the Honorary Captain of the Royal Malaysian Navy.

He said this when hosting a banquet for the chiefs of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the Royal Malaysia Police at Istana Alam Shah here yesterday.

Also present were Selangor Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, RMN chief Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar, RMAF Chief Datuk Roslan Saad, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and about 800 officers of the Navy, Air Force and Police.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah also called on all levels of the national security forces to serve with honesty and sincerity, emphasising on excellent quality of work.

“The issue of corruption, abuse of power and individual interests should be avoided,” he said.

He also praised the establishment of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) which, according to his highness, was a commendable step and should be extended from time to time.

The Sultan also called on the people to extend full cooperation and assistance to the security forces so that the objective of maintaining security in the country can be implemented smoothly and successfully.
