CM: RM10 million Dana-Sel targets 15,000 affordable homes

SHAH ALAM, 4 Dec: A total of 15,000 affordable homes (RMM) have been targeted to be built in two years with an initial allocation of RM10 million through the Selangorku Homes Financing Scheme (Dana-Sel).

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the Dana-Sel Scheme, with the approach of rent and own, aims to help settlers and the urban poor own their own homes.

He said that the provision will be channeled to the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) to implement the scheme, starting from 2015.

“I do not mean that the amount is sufficient, at least there are efforts shown because the PR1MA housing programme by the federal government is still not clear of its success and faces the challenges of land cost and management problems,” he said.

He said this during the launch of the Selangorku Housing Financing Scheme (Dana-Sel) today.

For starters, the Low-Cost Housing (PKR) project in Ukay Indah, Sungai Sering and the Rimba Flats PKR have been selected as the pilot projects involving 220 families of urban settlers.

For the first phase, which was launched today, there were 42 participants consisting of 22 participants from Ken Rimba, Bandar Rimba Jaya, and the remaining 20 participants from Sungai Sering, Hulu Langat.

While the rest will be done in stages next year.

Elaborating, Mohamed Azmin said that the introduction of Dana-Sel, as announced in the Selangor Budget 2015, is proof of the Pakatan Rakyat government’s concern regarding the people’s housing issue.

“The cost of property in Kuala Lumpur which is soaring has caused developers to migrate to Selangor.

“So this opportunity is taken by ensuring that the land in Selangor is developed in collaboration between private developers and subsidiary companies of the state government,” he said.

All participants under the Dana-Sel Scheme will be given low-cost houses to be rented and eventually own the houses after reaching the maturity term of rental according to the terms and conditions of the rent and own agreement.

During the lease period, participants must pay the monthly rent and other payments such as management charges, assessment tax, quit rent, fire insurance and other utility bills.

In addition, participants are not allowed to rent out the unit or rooms in the unit to a third party.

If participants settle all payments and no not have arrears, the house ownership will be transferred to the individual.
